Adopt A Flx!

A Very Decent Flxliner

These are a classic new-style Flxible, though, and to this writer at least, it appears to be a very desirable project. If you're close to Maryland, it might be worth looking into. Here are the pictures and descriptions:

This Flxliner looks like an excellent RIY (Refurbish It Yourself) project for the handy new owner.

It is still on old-style split rims, and the owner rates the tires as 3/10, so this addition would be on the table soon after purchase.

There are driveability issues - discussed below - but these are minimal.

Note the full basement!

6. Chassis Rust. This is very important. To check Chassis Rust, you
must crawl under the bus on your back, preferably with a light.

looking for rust-through or soft metal due to corrosion. Quantify
each entry with a (G) for Good, or (B) for Bad.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
The present owner started on installing fresh spring brake pots, and has gotten stalled on this one. So far, it's not driveable, since the spring brake conversion remains to be completed. He appears also to have started on replacing some power steering lines, and this needs to be completed as well. Since it drove in there not too long ago, it appears that this is all that's necessary to get it home - although the owner suggests that "major" repair or flatbedding is necessary. Taking the time to complete the springbrake installation - or even calling in a mobile mechanic to do the job - would be a major saving over flatbedding or even short-haul towing.

Freshwater Tanks [X] Generator Set [_] Hot Water Heater [X]

 4. In your opinion, how much work would be required to render
the conversion fully usable? (Please check appropriate box)

A lot, but some parts usable [_]

Here's the original description sent in by the owner:

1966 Flxliner
Originally converted in 1980

Needs new holding tanks installed (included)

Mechanical

Original Cummins V8 265HP, Spicer 5 speed
Needs new tires and still has the original split rims-current tires hold
air and are 10.00-20's and 11.00-20's

Glass: one side window and rear window are cracked
Paint is a 7
Stainless is a 7
Aluminum is a 7
No surface rust
Chassis rust-I can't say I am the most qualified person to evaluate but-
each corner seems to be OK. There is some evidence of rust-doesn't seem
bad, and there have been some previous repairs

Needs new power steering lines
Bus is currently un-driveable due to an in-process spring brake conversion
and air tank replacement-about 75% complete

This bus was last driven to it's present location 3 years ago.

It would presently require towing/flatbed to move. Owner is working on finishing
the spring brake conversion at which point it would be drive-able.

Overall roadworthiness is presumed to be OK but not guaranteed, as owner
has not driven the bus since purchase 3 years ago.

Interior

Front half is a 7
Bath and bedroom are a 5

No generator ever installed
