They've already tried eBay with a starting bid of $1500 and got no takers. By month's end, it's the scrapyard if they don't find a buyer. So if you're in the Chicago area, and have any heart for Flx Busses at all, consider taking this baby home, either to flip at a mark-up, or for personal conversion. WMATA Vehicle Description
The Chicagoland Historical Bus Museum is moving and is forced to reduce out fleet. This is a 1978 Flxible New Look Transit Bus, Model 53096-6-1, Serial #63924, originally delivered to Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) January 1978.
Engine is a Detroit Diesel 6V71, Transmission is a V730, with a toggle switch on the dash. It has an air starter, 40' long, 96" wide. Has 12.5/22.5 City Cruiser Tires, rear tires have minimal tread, front tires have approx 5/32'' tread. Got 2 new 8D batteries in November 2005. Starts good, and runs good. Interior in good shape, seats just need good cleaning. Exterior in fair shape. No major body damage, has surface rust. All glass in good shape (no cracks, etc.), except one driver's side window. Was driven from Baltimore, MD, to Chicago, IL, with no major problems in November 2005.
KNOWN ISSUES:
This is a used vehicle and is being sold as is. Must be picked up locally within three weeks of auction ending. We are not able to store the bus any longer than that. "
